How to reschedule or cancel your inburgering exam

To reschedule the inburgering exam, log in to Mijn Inburgering and change the date or location. You can do this until 1 week before the exam. Cancelling is also possible, and you get your €50 back if you cancel at least 1 week before. For the B1 or B2 Nt2 exam, the refund deadline is 4 weeks.

How to reschedule KNM or an A2 exam
- Log in to Mijn Inburgering with DigiD.
- Open the exam you booked.
- Choose a new date, a new location, or both.
- Do it at least 1 week (7 days) before the exam date.
You can only change it online if you also registered online. If you registered with the paper form, or cannot log in, write to DUO Servicecentrum Inburgering, Postbus 764, 9700 AT Groningen, and ask for a new date. DUO's exam rules also allow email. Your request must reach DUO at least 7 days before the exam (exam rules, article 3).
New dates can be more than 6 weeks away. If your 3-year deadline is close, check the next free date before you give up the one you have.
How to cancel the inburgering exam
Cancel in Mijn Inburgering. What you get back depends on when (exam rules, article 3):
- At least 7 days before: you get the exam fee back. If it was one of your free attempts, you keep that free attempt.
- Less than 7 days before: you can still remove the booking until 1 day before, but you do not get the money back. A free attempt is lost.
- ONA (2013 law): there is no refund when you cancel.
If you miss the exam
If you do not come, the fee is gone and you register and pay again (exam rules). There is one exception. If something very unusual stopped you from changing the date in time, you can ask DUO for a free new exam. Send a letter or email explaining why, with proof. DUO must receive it within 10 days after the exam date, and DUO decides.
Rescheduling or cancelling the Nt2 exam (B1 or B2)
The Nt2 state exam has its own rules (duo.nl):
- Cancel: email nt2@duo.nl at least 4 weeks before the exam to get your money back. If you cancel later, you still pay.
- Did not come: you can register again from the day after the exam, if places are free.
- Ill, or a death in your close family: tell DUO at nt2@duo.nl up to 10 days after the exam and send proof. Only then might you get a replacement exam.
- Late because of a train delay or traffic jam: you cannot take part, because you must be there 30 minutes before the start. Email DUO with proof of the delay, and you might get a replacement exam.
DUO's page describes cancelling, not moving to a new date. To move an Nt2 exam, email nt2@duo.nl or call 050-599 89 33 (option 1) and ask what is possible for your date.
Changing the date is not the same as more time
Moving an exam does not move your integration deadline. Under both laws you have 3 years. If you need more time because of illness or other reasons, that is a separate request to DUO. The inburgering exam guide explains deadlines and fines.
Use the extra weeks
A later date is useful if you use it. Do a timed practice run so you know where you stand. For KNM, start with a free 15-question KNM drill, then go through the KNM chapter guides for the themes you miss. For a weekly nudge, get one KNM question a week by email.
